Accelerating the energy transition
in aeronautics, aerospace and defense
With an energy transition on the horizon, lithium batteries have emerged as a highly pertinent solution to decarbonize transport.
Securing and producing these technologies for aeronautics and defense is however a real challenge for R&D, certification and industrialization.
In the face of this situation, Limatech takes up the challenge by designing and producing intelligent and secure lithium battery packs, today for starting engines, tomorrow for the hybridization and electrification of aircrafts. Batteries are indeed an essential component for all electric propulsion architectures (hydrogen fuel cell, hybridization of hydrocarbon engines, etc.).
Our innovative technologies will contribute to more sustainable air mobility. Thanks to the lightness of our batteries, we will be able to help the sector reduce its CO2 emissions.

We participate in the technological transition by offering lithium batteries to replace traditional lead and cadmium batteries.
Thanks to smarter, lighter, more reliable and longer-lasting batteries, we reduce the carbon impact throughout the product lifecycle. We are also committed to recovering end-of-life products for disassembly and sorting of components.
Our story
The idea
Marc Béranger, researcher in electronics at the CEA and enthusiast of ULM, discovers that there are no lithium batteries for aero.
He decides to mount his own lithium battery and designs an original electronic architecture, with excellent results. For the record, this first prototype is still flying more than 10 years later!
Challenge first step
Accompanied by Florence Robin and Maxime Di Meglio, he presented himself to the CEA’s spin-off scheme, the Challenge First Step, in 2015.
Creation of limatech
Following a technology transfer carried out with the CEA, they together create Limatech with the aim of transforming the prototype into an industrial product.
The company quickly opened a site in Toulouse, the European capital of aeronautics.
First trophies
Two years after being named one of EMTECH’s 10 most innovative startups according to MIT in 2017, Limatech wins the Airbus Aerospace Innovation Trophy in 2019.
EIC Green Deal
In 2020, Limatech wins the H2020 EIC New deal program, which earned it a nice grant of 2 million euros for the development of its first battery.
Global industry
Florence wins a Global Industrie trophy in the “Feminine Industry” category during a ceremony chaired by the Minister Delegate for Industry, Ms. Agnès Pannier-Runacher.
Production site
Limatech brings together all of its operational teams on a new 1,200 m2 production site located in Voreppe, in Isère, the French electronics valley.
France 2030
On November 25, 2022, the Minister Delegate for Industry, Roland Lescure, announced the 18 winners of the First factory program, of which Limatech is honored to be a part. This program will allow us to accelerate the industrialization of our range of ORION batteries. A few weeks earlier, Limatech had already been selected in the framework of the “Batteries” program for our R&D project on medium voltage batteries.
The idea

EIC GREEN DEAL
The EIC supports LIMATECH’s ORION project 
In December 2019, the European Commission, through its President Ursula Von Der Leyen, has launched a majorgreen energy financing plan to decarbonize and revive European industry.
In order to accelerate the emergence of eco-responsible technologies, the EIC Accelerator (the branch of the European Commission in charge of supporting innovative start-ups and SMEs) launched a “Green Deal” call in May 2020.
The objective is to identify the most strategic European start-ups in the energy transition sector.
As part of the H2020 project, Limatech was selected by the EIC “Green Deal” and is now committed, hand in hand with Europe, to the transition towards smarter and more eco-responsible mobility.
